Rebecca Maiden: A Profile

Rebecca is the Musical Director and Designated Safeguarding Lead of Derby Music Centre, and plays the violin, piano and flute.

Bex has enjoyed a musical career since leaving Manchester following her BMus (Hons), PGCE specialising in String Teaching and PGDip.


In at the deep end in Bermuda as the head of the Menuhin Strings Foundation, this was the beginning of the journey of whole class instrumental teaching, long before it was introduced in the UK.


It was her passion for playing and performing that took her to Glasgow, where she played with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet including world tours, CD recordings, weekly radio 3 recordings, BBC Proms, and Edinburgh Festival performances.

While living in Scotland, she also taught violin and viola at the RSAMD Junior School, BMus and BEd courses. Bex moved to Derby in 2006 taking on the role as Area Leader for Music Development with Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership including Director of Music at DMC where she conducted Senior Strings until she had her first baby in 2013. Throughout her career Bex has taught on many string courses, played as a freelance violinist and taught violin, piano and flute.
